Die Band hat mit ihrem aktuellen Album “Pipes Not Dead” nun ihr fünftes Album über Distemper Records veröffentlicht, die wirklich jeder echte Folk-Punk-Fan in seinem Regal haben sollte. Musik   Bumpkin Island (Indie/Artpop/Mathpop, Rennes/France) + Throw Me Off The Bridge (Indie/Folk, Laval/Frace)

Bumpkin Islanddoors 19:00 - show 20:00
Throw Me Off The Bridge Released in May 2013, Bumpkin Island’s first album « Ten Thousand Nights » was the result of the collaboration between 9 people, all gathered around the thoughts of Glenn Besnard, sound engineer and artistic driver of the band. That music that came out was one that invited the listener to wander, and was very much influenced by Islandais bands like Sigur Ròs.
Since then, the Rennes-based band has tightened it’s ranks and opened up their music writing to a wider spectre, letting each member assume each direction.
Instead of releasing a second album straight away, the Bumpkin Island took it’s time and released two EPs « Homework #1 » and « Homework #2 », an in depth experimentation of sounds to test the new formula and explore new musical territories.
On these favorable grounds, they recorded their second LP « All Was Bright » in September 2016, with the help of Thomas Poli ( band member of Dominique A, Montgomery, Miossec, Psykick Lyricah , album director for Leatitia Sheriff, Totorro, Robert Le Magnifique, Ropoporose..).

And with good results : each track has a strong esthetic, no compromises were made, and there are many layers to each song. Ellie James’ voice has never been so intense, nor the brass section so organic, nor the Electro textures so hypnotizing. Every single member of the band now express themselves entirely, confronting and mixing up their ideas. As if in a laboratory in perpetual movement, where a new kind of Pop-music comes to life, full of nuances and multiple colors, full of microscopic details and dichotomous processes. When on one track, an exuberant arrangement cheers up a sweet and basic melody (Siddhatha), on others the sweetness of a complex harmony is combined with rough and harsh rhythms that neither Radiohead (Spectacular Lives, Nightingale) nor PJ Harvey ( Head over Heals) would deny.
Acoustic instruments coexists with synthetic elements like varied machines, and vintage keyboards. Still recalling the orchestral surges we can still hear in the track All Was Bright, BUMPKIN ISLAND move away from their initial influences and cast bridges between Grizzly Bear, Arcade Fire and Caribou. The band has developed an increasing number of musical registers, densified their univers by thinking through all their news ideas to find their own defining sound.

Bumpkin Island has definitely gained a heap of self-assurance. By taking a real risk by renewing their sound, but without forgetting the route that led them there, led them to this redefining second album. Some say these are the hardest, but not when creative energy meets with desire and an assertive style.

A bridge hanging over a torrent of raw emotions, where the purity of folk meets the intensity of post-hardcore. Goosebumps rushing down your spine, emotions clutching your stomach and tears lurking in the corner of your eyes: Throw Me Of The Bridge’s live shows will not leave you unaffected, as if you had just born witness to somebody’s life in fast forward. The fragility of fingerpicked melodies and of vocal chords on the brink of snapping only magnifies the punch of this project. Starting in his very childhood, Quentin Sauvé, strong believer in the DIY way of life, draws his fervor from 15 years of involvement in the heavy music scene, and managed to strip it down expertly to the six strings of a folk guitar. A music full of shades, alternating between quietude mirages and increasing violence. Equally serene in the intimacy of a dimly lit house show or on a festival stage, Throw Me Off The Bridge already boasts over 200 shows all over the world. From Italy to Brisbane, from Tokyo to the Czech Republic, this torrent of emo-folk will take you to the edge, to experience salutary vertigo.

irkMums (formerly Mothers, formerly Aeroplane Flies High) are a noise-rock trio from Widnes, UK. The band recently released their stunning and uncompromising debut LP ‘Land Of Giants’ on the iconic Superstar Destroyer Records, which brings to mind the sonic stable of Part Chimp, the awkward structures of The Breeders and the heaviosity of Melvins. Having just finished a tour with cult psych-rockers TRAAMS, Mums have also performed at Raw Power Festival (Loop, Faust) and Wrong Festival (Bo Ningen, Blacklisters).

Irk (for fans of The Jesus Lizard / Daughters / Meshuggah) are a bass, drums and vocal noise rock trio from Leeds, UK, who have played with the likes of Pissed Jeans, Liturgy and Dope Body. Since releasing their debut ‘Bread and Honey’ EP in 2014, Irk have played over 80 shows across the UK and Europe and released a split EP with the London-based band Wren (Holy Roar Records). Irk are currently working on a debut full-length to be released in 2018, and have been confirmed to play this year’s ArcTanGent Festival alongside the likes of Converge, Explosions In The Sky, Boris and many more.

Musik   Lofi Lounge presents: Reema (Mimi Westernhagen) + Mike Featherstone (Indie/Berlin)

DJ Monophonic (Indie, Electro, Pop)

Living in Berlin, Germany but born and raised in London, Reema says her self-penned achingly sad folk-inspired songs are her way of communicating and have been since she started writing them at the age of seven. She has, in between then and now, been experimenting with different kinds of sound from punk to synth pop but has arrived back at the songs in their naked form. Just little twinkles of guitar and her voice guide us through stories about love, loss, friendship, life and ghosts.
All the colorful stage clothes and album artwork are handmade by Reema herself and feature her drawings and paintings of paisley covered animals and people, either printed onto fabrics or cut into collages. During the last years Reema has written songs featured on recent movie, 'Love Rosie' and on the European soundtrack of 'Twilight Eclipse' and supported great bands like 'The Kaiser Chiefs', 'Imagine Dragons' and 'Biffy Clyro'. She is now working on her next album and has started with 5 new songs with producer Ethan Johns (Laura Marling/Ryan Adams and more)- all live and to tape performances played and performed by herself and Ethan.

Mike Featherstone

writes songs about encounters/experiences no matter how great/small or how happy/sad/unfortunate performed to a captive/uncaptive audience of 2/20/200 in varying circumstances including churches/church halls/retirement homes/christmas carolling/bars. The songs are generally quite melodic and well-structured,,, so fairly easy listening overall with a hint of occasional dissonance (intentional/__unintentional__) to throw a few people off the track/scent. there are a few tracks/preludes/anthems/chants/sighs to check out on soundcloud recorded either in a studio or with the microphone on the earphone lead plugged into an iphone worth a listen before the entire live experience in order to join the inevitable singalong.>
